If you submit an idea, you will be invited to apply for a free three-month Innovation Capability-Building Program. The Program is open to the first 500 people who accept the invitation.

It’s a very practical Program, focussed on your idea. By taking part in the Program, you will learn methods, tools, and approaches to help you as you try to bring your idea to life. Making change happen is not easy (just ask any entrepreneur!), so even if you’re not successful with the idea you submitted to My Big Idea, it’s still worth it because you’ll come away much better equipped for your next idea!

More details about the Program will be provided in late August/Early September. The key points are:

  • The Program will be offered by the Australian Futures Project, Pollenizer, La Trobe University, and University of New South Wales.

  • You’ll need to commit about three hours a week from early September to early December 2016, and you’ll need to commit to the whole Program (there’s no point starting if you can’t see it through).

  • The Program will start with a two-day “bootcamp” over a weekend in early September 2016. We’ll run one bootcamp in each capital city, so you’ll need to join the one in your closest capital city.

  • After the bootcamp, we’ll lead you through a 60-day online program where you get to refine, test, and build your idea. You don’t need to travel for this – you just need an email address and an internet connection (you can even do it from your local library). We’ll also offer you a set amount of coaching and assistance by email and telephone.

  • The Program will end with a one-day closing event in late November 2016 to celebrate everyone’s progress. We’ll also point you in the right direction for next steps.

  • The 20 people who’ve made the most progress at the end of the Program (as judged by us) will receive free training on how to pitch their idea and possibly even get to pitch their idea to potential funders and supporters.

  • We’re also lining up free support (like webhosting) for everyone who makes it to the end of the Program with a promising idea.

  • You don’t have to pay to participate in the Program but you will need to make your own way to your closest capital city for the opening bootcamp and closing event and pay any travel and other costs associated with taking part in the Program.

  • Everyone who finishes will get a certificate from us!

Remember that taking part in the Program is the most important thing – not whether your first idea succeeds!
